Helo Crush Cups are the passion projects of Heloisa de Castro Cardoso.
Heloisa came to Australia ten years ago from Brazil, when she became café manager, she was very upset at the number of disposable coffee cups that were being used by her Darlinghurst café. As a biologist and a keen environmentalist, she couldn’t help but think about how many of these cups were making it to landfill (or being just thrown on the ground on the street!), and as her café attracted more customers, they were using more and more cups and lids (over 1000 of each per week).
After researching and discovering that many disposable coffee cups aren’t recyclable, and that coffee culture is growing stronger in Australia, she was determined to make a difference. As most of her customers were regulars, Heloisa thought that if they could understand how big the problem was, they would bring a reusable cup, it would save a lot of unnecessary waste. The Helo Crush Cup was born, and when 100 sold in the first week, she knew she had struck a chord with the people around her.
What our customers says about our product
The Helo Crush Cup is proof that a little thing can make a big difference. One of Heloisa’s regular customers, Oliver, comes in for three coffees a day. Over the last three months, he has used his reusable coffee cup 180 times. That’s a lot of coffee cups and lids! Just with Oliver, in a year the Helo Crush Cup will save 780 coffee cups and lids from landfill.
Not content with just helping her local community save the environment, Heloisa has decided to make her Helo Crush Cups available to a wider audience, encourage people Australia-wide to do their part to save the environment, one coffee at a time.
